Following the Sybil

Everyone knows that the Sybils were many, young and beautiful. Everyone knows that they were in close contact with the gods, continually going into a trance and speaking for them. If you like, the Sybils were like the press office of the gods. The Sybils lived in caves, against a backdrop of woods and lakes. Based on the evidence of the many mussel shells found nearby, it is thought that mussels were a food they particularly liked and which, perhaps, helped them to go into a trance and keep themselves in contact with the gods. The Sybils wrote on the leaves that the wind brought near their caves and by dint of collecting those leaves, wrote the Sibilline books, a collection of prophecies to be consulted in life’s most important moments. These books were destroyed by a fire and then magically rewritten. And where are they now? Come here, to the Sibillini Mountains, and follow the shells. Try to find the caves and be sure to read the leaves, even if you don’t know Ancient Greek. Follow the trails and perhaps you will find a copy of the Sibilline books or a retired Sybil who will help you to know your future. Try, because in the Sibillini Mountains the air is scented, the wind carries voices to be heard and, even if no one can promise you Eternal Youth, we are able to keep you healthy with our delicious food. Try, because ours is a magic land, just to look at the landscape makes you feel in contact with the gods.
